Our Background

At Ohio State University, three friends from different academic disciplines found a common purpose in their shared love of exploring the world. Hunter Gottfried, a graduate in International Business; Cassius McNamara, a graduate in Strategic Communications; and Cole Zimmerman, a graduate who studied Civil Engineering, turned their passion for travel into a company that redefines how people see the world: CHC Travels.

Hunter, the visionary strategist, used his International Business acumen to lay the groundwork for CHC Travels. With his experience in global markets and sustainable practices, Hunter secured partnerships with eco-conscious organizations and crafted travel packages that were both affordable and impactful. His upbringing in Ohio fueled his dream of making international travel accessible to everyone while fostering environmental stewardship.

Cassius, the creative communicator, shaped the brand’s voice and outreach. Leveraging his Strategic Communications skills, Cassius developed engaging marketing campaigns and fostered a community of travelers who wanted more than just vacations—they wanted meaningful experiences. His ability to craft compelling narratives helped CHC Travels attract customers and supporters who shared the vision of sustainable exploration.

Cole, the engineer of innovation, used his Civil Engineering expertise to design eco-friendly accommodations and transportation solutions for their travel packages. From collaborating on green building designs to identifying infrastructure projects that travelers could contribute to, Cole ensured that CHCTravels initiatives directly benefited the environment. Growing up in Tiffin with frequent visits out of state, Cole had a deep appreciation for preserving natural heritage.

Together, these three Buckeyes launched CHCTravels, a travel company that offers affordable trips while empowering travelers to leave a positive environmental footprint. Their packages include activities like restoring hiking trails, participating in marine clean-ups, and supporting reforestation projects. In less than a year, CHCTravels gained recognition as a model for sustainable tourism, inspiring countless students and communities to travel with purpose.

For Hunter, Cassius, and Cole, CHC Travels is more than a business—it’s a movement to show that exploration and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
